- Definition: The gift of teaching is the ability to communicate the information in such a way that the members of the body of Christ understand how to apply the word of God to their own lives and ministries so that they may be built up, unify and mature in the body of Christ to be Christ’s witnesses in word and deed in this world.
- Discerning the gift:
- Those who have this gift are good students of the word of God and seek the truth passionately; communicate the word of God in a clear and relevant way systematically, structurally and specifically; defends the truth of God with grace and love.; cares for others through their teaching.; acquires knowledge of the word of God through others under the supervision of the Holy Spirit. ; teaches through the examples.
- Dangers of misusing the gift: Proud of Knowledge; Criticizing practical applications; Seeking Self-glory;
- Examples of Those who had the gift of teaching : Jesus, Paul, Apollos; Acquila and Priscilla; Timothy.
Important of the gift of Prophecy .
- 1 Corinthians.14:1: Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.
- 1. அன்பை நாடுங்கள்; ஞானவரங்களையும் விரும்புங்கள்; விசேஷமாய்த் தீர்க்கதரிசன வரத்தை விரும்புங்கள்.
- Numbers 11:29:29 Then Moses said to him, “Are you [i]zealous for my sake? Oh, that all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them!” 30 And Moses returned to the camp, he and the elders of Israel.
- 29. அதற்கு மோசே: நீ எனக்காக வைராக்கியம் காண்பிக்கிறாயோ? கர்த்தருடைய ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் தீர்க்கதரிசனஞ் சொல்லத்தக்கதாக, கர்த்தர் தம்முடைய ஆவியை அவர்கள்மேல் இறங்கப்பண்ணினால் நலமாயிருக்குமே என்றான்.
Definition of the gift of Prophecy .
The gift of prophecy is an act of intelligible communication, rooted in spontaneous, divine revelation and empowered by the Holy Spirit, which results in words and action that can glorify to God and which must be received by those who hear or read them as absolutely binding and true.
- The Greek words for prophecy is Profiteia . Pro means ‘forth’ and phew means’ to speak.’ So prophecy means to forth tell. But at the same time, prophecy is also to foretell also. In General, the prophetic gift is all about to fore and forth tell of God’s word. Revelation ( Special guidance/message from God) and Reiteration ( Spokesperson for the revelation) are drawn from the Holy Spirit based not eh word of God. Some say that this gift no longer exists and preaching the word of God replaces it. It is not correct. This gift functions today as the gift of the Spirit based on the word of God.
Purpose of the Gift.
Edification.
- 1 Corinthians.14:3:3 But he who prophesies speaks edification.
- 3. தீர்க்கதரிசனஞ் சொல்லுகிறவனோ மனுஷருக்கு பக்திவிருத்தியும்.
Exhortation.
- 1 Corinthians.14:3: 3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.
- 3. தீர்க்கதரிசனஞ் சொல்லுகிறவனோ மனுஷருக்கு பக்திவிருத்தியும், புத்தியும்,
Comfort.
- 1 Corinthians.14:3:3 But he who prophesies speaks comfort to men.
- 3. தீர்க்கதரிசனஞ் சொல்லுகிறவனோ மனுஷருக்கு பக்திவிருத்தியும், புத்தியும், ஆறுதலும் உண்டாகத்தக்கதாகப் பேசுகிறான்.
Encouragement.
- 1 Corinthians.14:31:31 For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged.
- 31. எல்லாரும் கற்கிறதற்கும் எல்லாரும் தேறுகிறதற்கும், நீங்கள் அனைவரும் ஒவ்வொருவராகத் தீர்க்கதரிசனஞ்சொல்லலாம்.
Conviction.
- 1 Corinthians.14:24-25: 24 But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an uninformed person comes in, he is convinced by all, he is convicted by all. 25 [g]And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed; and so, falling down on his face, he will worship God and report that God is truly among you.
- 24. எல்லாரும் தீர்க்கதரிசனஞ் சொல்லுகையில், அவிசுவாசியொருவன், அல்லது கல்லாதவனொருவன், உள்ளே பிரவேசித்தால், அவன் எல்லாராலும் உணர்த்துவிக்கப்பட்டும், எல்லாராலும் நிதானிக்கப்பட்டும் இருப்பான்.25. அவனுடைய இருதயத்தின் அந்தரங்கங்களும் வெளியரங்கமாகும்; அவன்முகங்குப்புற விழுந்து, தேவனைப்பணிந்துகொண்டு, தேவன் மெய்யாய் உங்களுக்குள்ளே இருக்கிறாரென்று அறிக்கையிடுவான்.
Function of the Gift.
Those who have this gift call attention to sin and wrong attitudes and expose the truth and convict believers and non-believers.
- 1 Corinthians.14:24-25: 24 But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an uninformed person comes in, he is convinced by all, he is convicted by all. 25 [g]And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed; and so, falling down on his face, he will worship God and report that God is truly among you.
- 24. எல்லாரும் தீர்க்கதரிசனஞ் சொல்லுகையில், அவிசுவாசியொருவன், அல்லது கல்லாதவனொருவன், உள்ளே பிரவேசித்தால், அவன் எல்லாராலும் உணர்த்துவிக்கப்பட்டும், எல்லாராலும் நிதானிக்கப்பட்டும் இருப்பான்.25. அவனுடைய இருதயத்தின் அந்தரங்கங்களும் வெளியரங்கமாகும்; அவன்முகங்குப்புற விழுந்து, தேவனைப்பணிந்துகொண்டு, தேவன் மெய்யாய் உங்களுக்குள்ளே இருக்கிறாரென்று அறிக்கையிடுவான்.
Those who have this gift discern the Holy Spirit ‘s divine insights.
- Acts 20:23:23 except that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me.
- 23. கட்டுகளும் உபத்திரவங்களும் எனக்கு வைத்திருக்கிறதென்று பரிசுத்தஆவியானவர் பட்டணந்தோறும் தெரிவிக்கிறதைமாத்திரம் அறிந்திருக்கிறேன்.
- Acts. 21:10-11:10 And as we stayed many days, a certain prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. 11 When he had come to us, he took Paul’s belt, bound his own hands and feet, and said, “Thus says the Holy Spirit, ‘So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man who owns this belt, and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.’ ”
- 10. நாங்கள் அநேகநாள் அங்கே தங்கியிருக்கையில், அகபு என்னும் பேர்கொண்ட ஒரு தீர்க்கதரிசி யூதேயாவிலிருந்து வந்தான்.11. அவன் எங்களிடத்தில் வந்து, பவுலினுடைய கச்சையை எடுத்துத் தன் கைகளையும் கால்களையும் கட்டிக்கொண்டு: இந்தக் கச்சையையுடையவனை எருசலேமிலுள்ள யூதர் இவ்விதமாய்க் கட்டிப் புறஜாதியார் கைகளில் ஒப்புக்கொடுப்பார்கள் என்று பரிசுத்தஆவியானவர் சொல்லுகிறார் என்றான்.
Those who have this gift have a deep capacity to trust God based on what God has revealed.
- Romans.12:6:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith;
- 6. நமக்கு அருளப்பட்ட கிருபையின்படியே நாம் வெவ்வேறான வரங்களுள்ளவர்களானபடியினாலே, நம்மில் தீர்க்கதரிசனஞ்சொல்லுகிற வரத்தையுடையவன் விசுவாசப்பிரமாணத்துக்கேற்றதாகச் சொல்லக்கடவன்.
Those who have this gift share the prophecy in an orderly manner.
- 1 Corinthians.14:31-33:31 For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged. 32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. 33 For God is not the author of [i]confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.
- 31. எல்லாரும் கற்கிறதற்கும் எல்லாரும் தேறுகிறதற்கும், நீங்கள் அனைவரும் ஒவ்வொருவராகத் தீர்க்கதரிசனஞ்சொல்லலாம்.32. தீர்க்கதரிசிகளுடைய ஆவிகள் தீர்க்கதரிசிகளுக்கு அடங்கியிருக்கிறதே.33. தேவன் கலகத்திற்கு தேவனாயிராமல், சமாதானத்திற்கு தேவனாயிருக்கிறார்; பரிசுத்தவான்களுடைய சபைகளெல்லாவற்றிலேயும் அப்படியே இருக்கிறது.
Those who have the gift are subjected to the discernment.

- 29. தீர்க்கதரிசிகள் இரண்டுபேராவது மூன்றுபேராவது பேசலாம், மற்றவர்கள் நிதானிக்கக்கடவர்கள்.
Testing of the Gift.
Warning of False Prophecies
- 1 Thessalonians. 5:19-22: 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies. 21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil.
- 19. ஆவியை அவித்துப்போடாதிருங்கள்.20. தீர்க்கதரிசனங்களை அற்பமாயெண்ணாதிருங்கள்.21. எல்லாவற்றையும் சோதித்துப்பார்த்து, நலமானதைப் பிடித்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள்.22. பொல்லாங்காய்த் தோன்றுகிற எல்லாவற்றையும் விட்டு விலகுங்கள்.
- Jeremiah 14:14: 14 And the Lord said to me, “The prophets prophesy lies in My name. I have not sent them, commanded them, nor spoken to them; they prophesy to you a false vision, [c]divination, a worthless thing, and the deceit of their heart.
- 14. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் என்னை நோக்கி: தீர்க்கதரிசிகள் என் நாமத்தைக்கொண்டு பொய்யாய்த் தீர்க்கதரிசனஞ் சொல்லுகிறார்கள். நான் அவர்களை அனுப்பினதுமில்லை, அவர்களுக்குக் கற்பித்ததுமில்லை, அவர்களோடே பேசினதுமில்லை; அவர்கள் கள்ளத் தரிசனத்தையும், கள்ள சகுனத்தையும், இல்லாத விசேஷத்தையும், தங்கள் இருதயத்தின் கபடத்தையுமே, உங்களுக்குத் தீர்க்கதரிசனமாய்ச் சொல்லுகிறார்கள்
Agreement with the Bible.
- 2 Peter.3:16:16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.
- 16. எல்லா நிருபங்களிலும் இவைகளைக்குறித்துப் பேசியிருக்கிறான்; அவன் சொன்னவைகளில் சில காரியங்கள் அறிகிறதற்கு அரிதாயிருக்கிறது; கல்லாதவர்களும் உறுதியில்லாதவர்களும் மற்ற வேதவாக்கியங்களைப் புரட்டுகிறதுபோலத் தங்களுக்குக் கேடுவரத்தக்கதாக இவைகளையும் புரட்டுகிறார்கள்
Witness to Jesus.
- 1 John.4:1-2: Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God,
- 1. பிரியமானவர்களே, உலகத்தில் அநேகங் கள்ளத்தீர்க்கதரிசிகள் தோன்றியிருப்பதினால், நீங்கள் எல்லா ஆவிகளையும் நம்பாமல், அந்த ஆவிகள் தேவனாலுண்டானவைகளோ என்று சோதித்தறியுங்கள்.2. தேவஆவியை நீங்கள் எதினாலே அறியலாமென்றால்: மாம்சத்தில் வந்த இயேசுகிறிஸ்துவை அறிக்கைபண்ணுகிற எந்த ஆவியும் தேவனால் உண்டாயிருக்கிறது.
Glorifying God.
- John.16:14:14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.
- 14. அவர் என்னுடையதில் எடுத்து உங்களுக்கு அறிவிப்பதினால் என்னை மகிமைப்படுத்துவார்.
Edifying the body of Christ.
- 1 Corinthians.14:3:3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.
- 3. தீர்க்கதரிசனஞ் சொல்லுகிறவனோ மனுஷருக்கு பக்திவிருத்தியும், புத்தியும், ஆறுதலும் உண்டாகத்தக்கதாகப் பேசுகிறான்.
Subject to the discernment.

- 29. தீர்க்கதரிசிகள் இரண்டுபேராவது மூன்றுபேராவது பேசலாம், மற்றவர்கள் நிதானிக்கக்கடவர்கள்.
Self-Control.
- 1 Corinthians.14:32:32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
- 32. தீர்க்கதரிசிகளுடைய ஆவிகள் தீர்க்கதரிசிகளுக்கு அடங்கியிருக்கிறதே.
Fulfilled.
- Deut.18:22:22 when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.
- 22. ஒரு தீர்க்கதரிசி கர்த்தரின் நாமத்தினாலே சொல்லும் காரியம் நடவாமலும் நிறைவேறாமலும் போனால், அது கர்த்தர் சொல்லாத வார்த்தை; அந்தத் தீர்க்கதரிசி அதைத் துணிகரத்தினால் சொன்னான்; அவனுக்கு நீ பயப்படவேண்டாம்.
Reflection
- Why is it so easy for the gift of prophecy to be viewed negatively by others inside the church who don’t have their particular gift?
- Prophets see the wrong in order to make it right. Share your story of this kind of experience you have experienced.
- Why is it important for those who remember that the intention of the gift is to help not hurt? How can we keep this in front of our thinking when dealing with a prophecy?
